Hi, I'm Mr. Alec J. Escandon!
Long story short: I'm a teacher on weekdays and a photographer on weekends. My journey started with sports photography, but everything changed when a couple asked if I could create a wedding video for them. I took the opportunity, and the rest is history.
If you’re curious about the full story, you can find it below. For now, thank you for checking out my site—stay awhile!
You've heard the "long story short".
Now, let's make a short story long.
By trade, I am a high school theology teacher, currently teaching at Lutheran West in Rocky River, OH. I often tell my students: I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else doing anything else.
Originally, my plan after high school was to go into business. During high school, I designed and sold t-shirts out of my locker under the brand name "Brand of Sinners." Unfortunately, I had to stop making clothes about a year into college due to the high expenses (and, well, COVID).
But my creative spark didn’t let me rest for long. I started using my talents to help the athletic teams at my university, Concordia University Ann Arbor. Thanks to a coach who wouldn’t take no for an answer (Zach Johnston) and an amazing group of baseball players (who were even better men), I served as the media manager for four years. I provided them with social media exposure, professional photos, personalized edits, videos, and more. In return, they honored me with incredible memories and achievements: I am an NCCAA National Champion, a WHAC Conference Champion, and a CUAA Athletic Hall of Fame member.
While working with the baseball team, one of my teammates—who later became the best man at my wedding—asked if I could do a wedding video. My response? “Uh, no? I just do sports.” But after some encouragement (and the reassurance that they knew I had no experience with weddings), I decided to give it a shot.
That opportunity opened the door to even more possibilities. Soon, people were asking for all kinds of services: friend photoshoots, senior portraits, graduation shoots, engagement photos, family photos, business headshots, and eventually, the mother of all gigs—wedding photography.
And that’s how I got here. By "here," I mean with a super fancy, official(ish) portfolio, a cool logo, and an “about” page that’s way too long. If you’ve made it this far, thank you (Mom, I'm sure you're the only one still reading.).
Please reach out—I’d love for your story to become a part of mine!
